Building Communities That Last: The Journey of AWS User Group Kozhikode
Communities are not built overnight. They evolve through people, shared intent, and the willingness to step up when it matters most. The story of AWS User Group Kozhikode is a reflection of exactly that.
Back in 2022–2023, AWS User Group Kozhikode kick-started its journey with its first meetup, and we at AWS User Group Kochi were happy to support the community during its early phase. Like many grassroots initiatives, sustaining momentum requires consistent time, energy, and leadership. Over time, due to bandwidth constraints, the group became inactive, and we weren’t in a position to take it forward ourselves.
What makes the present moment truly special is what came next. A new set of passionate and motivated community members stepped forward — not because they were asked to, but because they believed in the value of a strong local tech community. They took ownership, revived the group, and began shaping AWS User Group Kozhikode with fresh energy and commitment. This kind of organic, community-driven leadership is what makes ecosystems resilient and long-lasting.
I’m also incredibly proud to share that every active tech community in Kerala today is led by a member of the AWS User Group Kochi community. From the very beginning, our mission has been to bring a strong meetup culture to Kerala — creating an open, inclusive platform for peer-to-peer learning, collaboration, and knowledge sharing. Seeing communities grow, evolve, and lead independently is the strongest validation of that mission.
Why Local Communities Matter
For many engineers, local meetups are where learning truly begins. They create safe spaces to ask questions, share real-world challenges, and learn from peers who are building and operating systems every day.
As someone from the Malabar region, it’s deeply satisfying to see Kozhikode emerge as a growing hub for cloud and platform engineering discussions. The enthusiasm, curiosity, and openness of the community are clear indicators of what’s ahead.
Sharing Knowledge, Growing Together
At the recent meetup, I had the opportunity to deliver a session on AI on Amazon EKS, covering practical patterns for running modern AI workloads on Kubernetes. From architecture and best practices to scaling and observability, the discussions reflected the community’s hunger for real, hands-on learning.
Equally inspiring were the sessions delivered by fellow community speakers, who generously shared their experiences and insights. These peer-led conversations are the heartbeat of any strong user group.
A Collective Vision for Kerala
AWS User Group Kozhikode is not an isolated effort — it’s part of a larger vision to build a connected, inclusive cloud community ecosystem across Kerala. Together with AWS User Group Kochi, AWS User Group Kozhikode and the CNCG Kochi Chapter, we are creating pathways for learners, practitioners, and leaders to grow together.
The goal is simple yet powerful: to shape confident builders, encourage collaboration, and give back to the community that has given us so much.
All the very best to the AWS User Group Kozhikode Organizing team. And special thanks to the co-speakers Varsha Das from AWS and Sherin Shahanas from F9 Infotech.
Here’s to many more meetups, shared learnings, and builders rising from our community. The journey has just begun.
